Network Event Viewer - Syslog Monitoring

Network Event Viewer includes a self-contained syslog server that can be used to collect syslog log messages from both computers and devices such as routers. Syslog messages are read and stored in Network Event Viewer's event log repository (SQL Server, MySQL, or the file system). A log is created for each device sending syslog messages enabling System Administrators to easily view entries for each device rather than having to sort through one log for a specific device. Consolidate and archive syslog messages using the same rules you define for your Windows Event Logs.

Syslog Alerts, Notifications, and Actions

When syslog messages are received, filters can optionally be applied enabling users to be alerted of critical events. Some of these actions include:

  • Fully customizable email (HTML or TEXT based)
  • Exporting to a file (CSV, EVT, HTML, TXT, XML)
  • Displaying a message box
  • Playing a sound
  • Writing messages to a user defined database table
  • Forwarding messages to another syslog server
  • Displaying a system tray popup message
  • Sending a SMS notification through an email-to-SMS gateway or service
